On this page you will find a sample gradual entry schedule and a social story you and your child can read together to help prepare you both for the new experience of kindergarten!

Note: registration information and forms are on the SD8 district website and you can bring your completed documents to the Kootenay River Secondary School office for processing.
2026 Gradual Entry Schedule
To help kids transition into Kindergarten, they start gradually. This allows for children to ease into full days and become familiar with classroom routines slowly for the first couple of weeks. Kindergarten students will attend full-time on Monday, September 21st, 2026.
PLEASE NOTE:
- You will need to pick your child up from school at the early dismissal time, as there will not be a bus running at those times.
- The Wildflower annual calendar is slightly different than other schools in SD8. Students engage in home learning on Fridays, and there are additional home learning days around some of the breaks. An annual calendar will be included in the Welcome to Kindergarten bag, and it is also available on the district website.

Bus Registration
Will your child need to take the bus to school? Register your child now for busing for the 2026-2027 school year. The deadline for bus registration is June 12, 2026.
All students who plan to ride the bus must register annually.
Social Story for Kindergarten Students and Families
A social story is a simple, friendly story that helps young children understand what to expect at school, like meeting their teacher, following routines, and playing with classmates. It uses clear language and reassuring pictures or examples to explain what happens that first day of school, step by step, helping kids feel more confident, calm, and excited about starting kindergarten.
